As much as I would love to skip town, veer off the beaten path and explore far-off destinations, I am just as happy at my parents' farm in Bazette, TX! Some of my favorite experiences have been at 'Roadrunner Ranch'. Not a museum, amusement park or mall, just the country. My mother spent her childhood coming here, just a few miles outside of Kerens, TX (home of Big Tex haha) . Now my family and I have had a chance to experience the same joy- whether sitting by a bonfire, fishing, hunting, shooting at a target or looking at the starry sky at night, one cannot help but detach from the crazy world in which we live...
My dad raises cattle on the farm and makes his way here from Corsicana daily. Some of us hunt deer or fish, and others jump the ponds for ducks and others just sit outside and listen.
Brett has always had the itch to travel the world. He shipped a motorcycle to Europe and worked his way through the continent for a year after finishing college, then we met and got married, had kids and our priorities changed. I know that his adventurous spirit is not dormant, but I love that we have this place to gather close to home and relax.
My children, their friends and my nephews are making their own memories now. Big cities may offer a lot more 'fun' things to do in some teenagers' eyes, but thankfully the kiddos get to experience something a big city cannot offer. AND no WIFI!
"The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things." -Henry Ward Beecher
My mom named it Roadrunner Ranch because she loves seeing the roadrunners scampering on the land!
"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." -Denis Waitley
